Earth Science in Computer Lab #7
You have a choice to play either of the two JASON games (or both). You must sign in through the Jason Mission Center first. I use the sign in to give you credit for the activities. (If you wander off the site after the game is downloaded you will get a zero quiz grade.)
JASON: EcoDefenders
JASON: Resilient Planet You get to drive the JASON submarine on this one.
Try this while you're waiting on Resilient planet. NASA funsite: magnetic games

Friday Assignments
Earth Science
Click on this link for your opener. Oceanic food chain
Today's assignment to be done on your own paper and turned in at the end of the period is to create a food web (pictires of species with arrows are fine) for the video you should've seen yesterday. If you didn't get to finish it here it is again:Where the bay becomes the sea.
Turn in your assignment to the substitute. See you Monday!
Anatomy & Physiology
I had tough choice for this assignment, muscle physiology or a cat dissection. You got lucky, the cat dissection was pretty unpleasant --at least on film! Sooo.....Today's lesson is on -----> the
Physiology of Muscle Tissue.
Please click on each of the tutorials in this section. I like this one because if you hold the button on the tutorial, you see it as a movie and for this reason you should be able to get through all the tutorials in one class period. Don't forget the reviews so you do well on the muscle quiz on Monday. It will only take five minutes if you completed the tutorial.
I still have only two links to put on the website for next week. If your group is scheduled to present next week, get the link in to me Friday. See you on Monday!

Thursday Assignments
Earth Science:
Download adobe shockwave This will need to be done just once for the day. Please download shockwave to make the second activity interactive. Thanks.
Arctic Food Activity This warm up activty is short and should be done as a whole class using the smart board.
Before you start this next activity, get out a sheet of paper. Put your name, date, and period on it. You will need to answer the following questions about the Pond food web.
1. Which animals are involved in this food web?
2. Which are producers? consumers? decomposers?
3. Explain what happens in the food web to the other animals when the number of blue herons is increased.
(This should be several complete sentences.)
4. Explain the effects of increasing the algae on the food web.
5. How does lowering the population of inverts change the populations of each of the other species in the food web?
Turn your paper into your substitute.
Watch the following video. You'll need information from it for tomorrow.Where the Bay Becomes the Sea
Anatomy & Physiology
I thought you might enjoy a little deja vu experience: We need a celebrity from the audience to act as our person who touches the smartboard. Someone volunteer--come on don't be shy! So go ahead , touch the link and start the fun. Flashback: Heart
Now for Thursday's body system du jour: the nervous system.
Work your way through the Nervous System Tutorial. No short cuts. Then at after the last tutorial click on the review. When finished take the quiz as a class.
Nervous System Quiz 1
Okay so there are two quizzes---you have a second chance to redeem yourself by taking a quiz on another part of the nervous system.Nervous System: Cells Quiz Good luck! Please ask the substitute to add to the note on how your class did. Gracias!
Finally, I have only one group besides the group that already presented who has sent me a link for their presentation next week. I'll be posting them this weekend so get them in to me by Friday if your group is presenting next week. Great!

Wednesday Assignments
Earth Science:
Hopefully you acquired a sense of what goes into a food chain and how those food chains can form food webs.
Food chain cartoon: This is a quick review of the elements of a food web.
Food Chain Interactive Quiz: This quiz is not for a grade unless your sub decides to give it to you as a graded exercise. Keep this in mind you will have a quiz on food webs when I return on Monday.
Antarctic Ocean Chain This next activity requires you to take notes. You can get information by moving the cursor over the pictures.
Create an antarctic food web: There are several food webs you can attempt to make on this site. Please complete as many as you have time for. I would suggest a boys vs. girls competition. Winner gets a bonus on the quiz next week. If you want the bonus points, have your substitute leave a note about who was most successful building the web.
Have fun!
Anatomy & Physics
This link will give you a brief tutorial on the urinary system. Urinary System Tutorial Click on the blue highlighted terms on each of the three pages. Then do the review.
Do the sections 1-6 using this next link. In depth: the urinary system When you're finished, complete the self evaluation. Only take one guess at each quiz question. Please ask your substitute to record how you did as a class. Thanks.Evaluation.

Anatomy & Physiology This Week
This link should take you to two choices. I would like you as groups within each class to use the smart board to interact with the content. Then go online later and comment on the activity. I would like to see more interactive media in the presentations and these looked like fun.
Interactive Activity (There are two in this one)
interactive skeleton
Another cool skeletal interactivity
Heart Crossword
Touch screen word search
My suggestion is to be exact in your google searches as you look for multimedia. When you find something email me at cindytaylor@ccs.k12.nc.us and I will load it onto our page for your presentation. I'll check this everyday this week to help if I can. Have a great week!

Earth Science This Week
Your focus this week is on marine food webs. By the end of the week you'll be expected to create one to turn in.
Tuesday:You must know the key terms the substitute writes on the board. Some of them were defined before break but write the definition again to remind yourself. Others you will find in these links.
Food Webs & Food Chains
The next link explains energy pyramids and is also located within the first link.
Energy Pyramids
Once you have all the definitions, go to this page and try this interactive learning aide.
